Suck it up and keep going, or … be the revolution

Who has never felt like you have to “suck it up and keep going” when not feeling well? Or even when you are very sick?

Why resting and self-care can bring so much guilt and judgment?

burnout no pain, no gainThese attitudes of:
💥 Suck it up and keep going!
💥 No pain, no gain!
💥 Power through it!

Are both: a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing when it helps cope and survive a crisis. However, it is a curse when it is a default mode of living.

Pushing through pain helps us, as individuals and as a collective, to survive in critical times. But, it is harmful when it becomes part of the culture and the expectation in everyday life.

Long before the pandemic, we have been pushing through, at exhaustion, for school, work, health, beauty, and other goals. There is no time to rest because there is always another success milestone to reach.

burnout keep goingNo pain, no gain.
Focus on your vision.
Keep going.
If you rest, you are lazy, a quitter, and a loser.
You feel guilty. You feel less human.
Keep going.
Until you are sick … or dead.

Children, teenagers and adults commit suicide because they believe they are not “good enough” or “strong enough” to meet (inhuman) expectations.

We believe that we have to “suck it up and keep on going” to be valuable, worthy and relevant. So we push through, get sick, unhappy and disconnected from ourselves and from what feels truly fulfilling.

We have become zombies to serve a sickening system that kills the planet and people for greedy production and consumerism—a system that doesn’t care about wellbeing but about profit, results, outcomes.

We have developed addictive (consumerism) behaviors that keep us numbing our deep pain, so we can cope remain “functional,” serving the rat wheel. We are addicted to work, medication, drugs, alcohol, shopping, gambling, pornography, Netflix, social media, etc. Anything that keeps us disconnected from what we feel and from our soul-calling.

We are irritable, angry, tired, impatient, sad, lonely and we pretend we don’t know the reason.

Depression, anxiety, fatigue, burnout are not the villains!
They are the call for life! The life that we are selling away for disposable and meaningless goodies.

What is the medicine for all this pain?
What is the alternative from “suck it up and keep going until you die?”
