Let’s reframe “midlife crisis”

The computer’s dictionary’s definition is “midlife crisis (noun): a loss of self-confidence and feeling of anxiety or disappointment that can occur in early middle age.”

First, when is middle age nowadays?

People can live over 100 years with quality of life for a long time! They can accomplish a lot until the end. Wait to retire and die, while watching TV, is so last century! 🙄

Second, the combination of those emotions describe in the dictionary can happen throughout life. I remember having a “loss of self-confidence and feeling of anxiety or disappointment” when I was 4, 7, 10, 13, 21, 32, 37 … Thanks to parents, teachers, school’s system, religion, companies, bosses, leaders, politicians, and more.

I don’t think that those emotional experiences will ever completely go definitely away. And this is a good thing! This is what moves us to change, expand and grow. This is what keeps us lively, while creating new turning points in life. This is what leads us to meet new people, learn new skills and explore new possibilities.

When we get older (hopefully) we are wiser (hopefully), better equipped emotionally and giving less fu#k to what others think or what they expect from us. Isn’t it a precious luggage? These valuables  that come with age, and crisis,  are what can get us moving towards what truly brings fulfilment and joy!

It is not a midlife crisis. It is a turning point. It is a turning point to the best yet to come.
