Did you know that procrastination, feeling stuck, resistance or fear of changes may have to do with emotional wounds or trauma?
And, did you know that pushing too hard towards something that we resist, instead of helping us move forward, can cause more resistance, stuckness or even emotional damage?
We all have experienced some trauma or deep emotional wound that can significantly affect our perception, choices, actions and inactions towards life, relationships and goals.
Procrastination, resistance to change, and various fears serve us on some level – otherwise, we wouldn’t experience it. They are usually an unconscious attempt to protect us from something or to keep us in a situation that feels familiar – even if that situation is painful!
To move towards more profound changes, it’s essential to acknowledge how those aspects (procrastination, stuckness, resistance, etc.) currently serve us. Then, we can move toward integrating and transmuting those aspects into a more helpful pattern – but we need to do it compassionately.
Accepting what is and having a compassionate and loving attitude towards oneself during a change process will promote healing and more movement towards expansion.
This movement and expansion from a place of healing will promote more effective, positive and long-lasting changes in your life and relationships.
WHEN WE FEEL SICK, SAD, STUCK, OR IN PAIN, WE NEED MORE LOVE, NOT LESS. We need more compassion rather than rejection, shame, guilt, punishment, or other mental or emotional torture.
Some clients feel stuck and have certain emotional or behavioral reactions regarding their life situations because of an emotional wound or trauma.
When I work together, we don’t do trauma work per se because I am not operating as a therapist. But, as a Spiritual Life Coach and well trained in “Trauma Informed Care” (when I was a therapist), we create a space for healing.
The client doesn’t necessarily need to talk about trauma to experience some healing in those emotional wounds. Healing can happen because they feel I am providing a safe space for them to be seen and develop a deeper connection, love and compassion with themselves. My role is to hold the space for that to happen while supporting them to move toward the life, relationship or career goals we are working on.
And the movement toward their goals unfolds NOT because they push harder but because their need for procrastination, resistance and certain fears dissolve, and they are freer to expand.
While we work together, they exercise feeling safe and trusting themselves more, and that will bring more strength to move towards their goals and new possibilities.
I am Iria Sebastião, Spiritual Life Coach & Catalist for Personal Change.
